
Monday March 10th 2003 at approximately 10:00 hrs. Newington fire department dispatch center received a fire alarm for 2193 Berlin Turnpike. The home of Don's Automotive Specialties, also known as Don's Speed Shop. The first arriving fire officer found heavy smoke coming from one of the garage bays. The shop contains automotive body equipment along with gasoline, diesel, and racing fuel used in the manufacture of racing engines. Command quickly called a second alarm and requested mutual aid from Wethersfield, Rocky Hill, and Berlin. on Monday morning. The fire consumed the popular automotive shop on the Berlin Turnpike.
Fire investigators were unable to enter the building the following day, because of health threats, including a roof that's in danger of collapsing and a debris-covered floor.
